Sausage Gnocchi

Sausage Gnocchi is a hearty Italian-inspired dish featuring tender potato gnocchi sautéed with savory sausage and a rich tomato sauce, perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb potato gnocchi
  • 12 oz Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the gnocchi according to package instructions until they float to the surface. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add red pepper flakes if using. Simmer the sauce for 8-10 minutes to meld the flavors. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet and gently toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the gnocchi is heated through.
  6. Remove from heat, stir in fresh basil, and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

Notes

For extra creaminess, stir in a splash of heavy cream or a dollop of ricotta cheese before serving.
