Ground Beef Stroganoff is a comforting, creamy Russian-inspired dish featuring savory ground beef and mushrooms simmered in a tangy sour cream sauce, served over egg noodles or rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Egg noodles or cooked rice, for serving
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic and sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook until mushrooms release their moisture and soften, about 5-6 minutes.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture and stir well to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove raw flour taste.
  5. Gradually pour in beef broth while stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  6. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 4-5 minutes. Remove skillet from heat and stir in sour cream until incorporated. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the stroganoff over warm egg noodles or cooked rice. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

For a richer flavor, try adding a splash of white wine along with the beef broth or top with shredded cheddar cheese when serving.
