Garlic cottage cheese naan is a soft, fluffy Indian flatbread stuffed with a flavorful mixture of fresh garlic and creamy cottage cheese, perfect as a savory snack or accompaniment to meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup crumbled fresh cottage cheese (paneer)
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tbsp melted butter or ghee

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and sprinkle yeast over it. Let it activate for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yogurt and the activated yeast mixture. Mix and knead into a soft, smooth dough. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. Prepare the filling by mixing crumbled cottage cheese, minced garlic, and chopped cilantro in a bowl.
  4. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a small circle on a floured surface.
  5. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of the dough circle. Fold edges over the filling and seal, then gently roll out into a 6-7 inch naan.
  6. Heat a skillet or tawa on medium-high heat. Cook the naan for 2-3 minutes on one side until bubbles form, then flip and cook another 2 minutes.
  7. Brush each cooked naan with melted butter or ghee. Serve warm.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, sprinkle the filling with a pinch of red chili flakes or add finely chopped green chili. Serve naan alongside curries or enjoy as a tasty snack with chutney.
